NRNA to invest in Bagmati corridor park construction

- Post Report, KATHMANDU

Oct 11, 2014-Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is investing around Rs 20 million to build a park along the Bagmati River corridor at Sankhamul Ghat in Kathmandu.

On the eve of NRN Day on Friday, NRNA members laid the foundation stone for

the proposed park in the presence of high-level government officials.

During the event, Sesh Ghale, president of NRNA, said it is necessary to improve the quality of city by promoting greenery. The proposed garden, which will be spread over 32 ropani land, is expected to complete in nine months.

Unplanned city development and rapid urbanisation have robbed the Capital city of open space and greenery, which are indispensible for healthy living.

Ghale said that NRNA is keen to work with government and other concerned partners to build similar parks and gardens in other places as well. Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel said the government is committed to work towards improving the physical,

biological and social status of Bagmati river and its tributaries.

The government is planning to build several parks along the river corridors extending from Sundarijal to Chobhar area inside Kathmandu Valley.
